Today marks the opening of Shangri-La’s Tanjung Aru Resort and Spa, Kota Kinabalu’sSTAR Marina, a new 2,787-square-metre facility owned and operated by the resort, which is set on the northern tip of the island of Borneo in the Malaysian state of Sabah.
The marina’s single-storey facade with a partial glass roof is built on the resort’s tranquil and tropical 25-acre grounds and is adjacent to a 60-metre-long private jetty at the water’s edge. Designed by Design B.U.BE, Singapore, STAR Marina offers outdoor enthusiasts a choice of motorised and non-motorised water activities, speed boat transfers to the exotic sights of the neighbouring islands, as well as an open-air venue for intimate dinners for two or evening functions for up to 100 people.
“For every activity at STAR Marina, guests can enjoy a pursuit from the luxurious to adventurous, and still be surrounded by the wonders of Borneo,” said Craig Powell, general manager of Shangri-La’s Tanjung Aru Resort and Spa, Kota Kinabalu.
The marina’s broad menu of activities includes dive certification classes; island excursions to nearby Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park and Mamutik, deep-sea fishing, and private charters to the crystal waters nearby the resort.
For a more active day out, guests can jet-ski, waterski, wakeboard, kayak, paddle board, wind surf, or even take a turn on the banana boat and the Hobie Cat – a small sailing catamaran. Equipment rental and a boatyard to maintain and repair the resort’s boats are available on-site. STAR Marina operates activities from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. daily, and activities can be reserved by telephoning (60 88) 327 888 or e-mailing: firstname.lastname@example.org.
