Shangri-La Invites Food Lovers to Savor Nikkei at the Fort with Acclaimed Chef Mitsuharu Tsumura for the International Festival of Gastronomy

Shangri-La at the Fort, Manila invites food lovers to join internationally acclaimed chef Mitsuharu Tsumura at Samba, the hotel’s Peruvian restaurant located at Level 8, on October 27 to 31, 2016.

Tsumura is one of 12 celebrated chefs who will headline the Shangri-La International Festival of Gastronomy, a culinary event that will be simultaneously launched in 11 of the group’s hotels in ten cities: Beijing, Hong Kong, Jakarta, London, Manila, Paris, Taipei, Tokyo, Shanghai and Singapore. The 12 chefs – three of whom have restaurants listed in The World’s 50 Best Restaurants – hold a total of 20 Michelin Stars between them.

Born in Lima, Peru, Mitsuharu Tsumura is chef at Maido – the restaurant which took the number 13 spot on this year’s World’s 50 Best Restaurants. Gifted at magically merging Peruvian and Japanese influences, Tsumura applies a contemporary approach while making traditional food. One could say the Nikkei cuisine he’s pioneered is a summation of Chef Tsumura’s memories, experiences and heritage, or as Tsumura explains it, simply as Japanese food with a Peruvian heart. His book, Nikkei is Peru, details the emergence of the titular cuisine and its importance in Peruvian culture.

His four-course lunch menu is priced from PHP2,250 (US$47), and six-course dinner menu is priced from PHP4,500 (US$95) respectively. Beverage menu pairings are available to complete the experience for an additional PHP2,200 nett for lunch and PHP2,500 nett for dinner.

As an added treat, on October 30, Tsumura will be cooking with celebrated chef Virgilio Martinez in a special four-hands dinner for only one night.

Martinez, who is garnering attention for his Central restaurant in Lima, Peru – ranked fourth on 2016’s World’s 50 Best Restaurants and first in Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants – is headed to Shangri-La Hotel, Singapore on October 25 to 29, also as part of the Shangri-La International Festival of Gastronomy, to introduce incredible dishes that highlight Lima’s vibrant food scene and to share his modern take on traditional Peruvian specialties. He will be in Manila to introduce his new book, Central.

Tsumura’s and Martinez’s special four-hands dinner on October 30 will feature an eight-course menu from PHP7,500 (US$159).

Don’t miss a dish in what promises to be the must-taste culinary event of the year.
