Shangri-La Hotel,Harbin Holds Juan Charity Auction

Shangri-La Hotel, Harbin held a painting charity auction called “Juan” in the evening of 11 August 2017.  All the artworks were contributed by one of the hotel’s long-stay guest, Mr. Juan, a painting lover from Spain.  The charity auction raised a total of RMB6,950, which was donated to the hotel’s Embrace project partner, Yongsheng Primary School.

The Chinese name of this charity auction is Huan.  It is the same pronunciation of “Juan” in Spanish – the name of the long-stay guest.  Huan in Chinese means “happiness” and “joy”, which are exactly the reasons that keep Mr Juan drawing in his leisure time all these years.  He would like to share his happiness and care to other people, making this charity auction possible.

As a Spanish traveller who lived in Harbin, Mr Juan felt at home at Shangri-La Hotel, Harbin.  He was very proud of contributing to the hotel’s Embrace project.  Without hesitation, he accepted the hotel’s invitation and donated all his paintings which were made in Harbin.

On the night of the event, a student representative from Yongsheng Primary School gave Mr Juan a painting he made himself as a token of his gratitude.  He said he would try his best to be a person like Mr Juan, who is useful to society and one who helps others in need.

“We are going to set up a scholarship from the donation funds tonight to motivate students to study harder,” said Principle Jiang of Yongsheng Primary School.

Through this charity auction, Shangri-La Hotel, Harbin would like to call on the warm-hearted people to care about the growth of rural children through more engagement.  More actions will create a better and happier society.
