Sunshine in Guangzhou

Shangri-La Hotel, Guangzhou

Shangri-La Hotel, Guangzhou, has been supporting the development of children at the Little Sun Special Children Recovery Centre for the last four years. The centre is for autistic and deaf children between the ages of 3 and 7. In 2011, efforts were concentrated on upgrading the centre's fire safety system, fans, classrooms and exercise rooms. In 2012, focus shifted towards teacher training classes and funding for students from low-income backgrounds to ensure they can continue their education at the recovery centre.

Last year, we continuously supported the centre and helped to build facilities in its extension building. In addition, we also extended our helping hand to the centre’s increasing number of hearing impaired children.

Special Education Assistance

As of today, 20 teachers have been sent to professional development courses for further education. In addition, special education professionals and doctors have been invited by the hotel to conduct psychological training for the parents and teachers.

Nurturing Development

The hotel is dedicated to helping families with financial difficulties by fully supporting their autistic children's studies and recovery treatments. The drop-out rate at  the Little Sun Special Children Recovery Centre has been reduced by 66% over the last four years.

Community Involvement

The hotel has established a strong volunteer team that consists of more than 200 staff members. In addition to festive visitations, volunteers join classes twice a month and accompany the children at the centre while they receive treatments.

Latest News

Shangri-La Hotel, Guangzhou, has strengthened its cooperation with Johnson Diversey via the EMBRACE project. In 2013, Johnson Diversey continuously helped to install facilities and products in the centre's washrooms and kitchen and enhanced the importance of hygiene. Moreover, they provided training for the children, parents and teachers on the importance of proper personal and food hygiene.

Followed by the first successful annual charity event in 2012, we organised the second annual charity event in December 2013. The event successfully raised over RMB 140,000 to help four hearing impaired children complete their recovery courses. We thank all participating corporate clients, business partners and media supporters that helped us reach the new fund raising record. Because of these efforts, a little girl was able to hear her parents voices for the first time.
