For the first time, Traders Hotel, Yangon has collaborated with Link for Aid to stage a fundraising concert to support disadvantaged children and the construction of a new school that will provide free education for 850 children. Music For Myanmar will take place on 28 November 2013 at the Myanmar Ballroom. Two leading European musicians, violinist Héloïse Goeghegan and pianist Gloria Campaner, will make their debut in Myanmar. Prior to the concert, both artists will conduct a master class to benefit students from the Gitameit School of Music on 26 November 2013.
Music for Myanmar will showcase the musical talents of two young European soloists, complemented by Traders Hotel, Yangon’s culinary team, who will present an Italian buffet reception during the charity concert.
Irish violinist Héloïse Goeghegan made her debut at Carnegie Hall in New York and at Wigmore Hall in London to great critical acclaim in 2010. Gloria Campaner, an award winning Italian pianist, released her first CD featuring music by Schumann and Rachmaninov with EMI Italy in 2013. On their maiden journey to Yangon, both musicians will conduct a complimentary master class for young violin and piano students at the Yangon Gitameit School of Music on 26 November 2013, followed by the landmark concert at Traders Hotel, Yangon on 28 November 2013. The programme for the complimentary class is appended below.
“To be asked to contribute to these charitable causes is a privilege,” said Héloïse Goeghegan. “It means a lot to Gloria and I to perform in Yangon and reach out to young musicians. Giving master classes to the Gitameit students will allow us to share our experience and techniques to hone their professional skills. We are very excited by this opportunity and happy to be able to use our music to build a better future for so many children in Myanmar, together with Link for Aid and Traders Hotel, Yangon.”
Link for Aid, founded by a group of professionals in travel, media and communications, is an independent, non-profit organisation based in Rome, Italy. Its mission is to bring and restore dignity and self-reliance to the underprivileged and deaf children of Myanmar and Cambodia. Music for Myanmar will be followed by other charitable events starring internationally renowned celebrities and artists who will share their skills, passion and heart to help the children of Myanmar.
“Organising Music for Myanmar with Traders Hotel, Yangon is an exciting and unique collaboration to broaden our fund raising activities through culture. It is wonderful to work towards our common goal, which is to provide access to all levels of education for children on the fringes of society in Myanmar. Our mutual aim is to open new windows of opportunity for them, so that they can aspire for a brighter future,” said Pamela McCourt Francescone, founder of Link for Aid.
“Traders Hotel, Yangon, has always taken the lead in contributing to the poor within our community. We want to make a meaningful difference to the lives of children and their families. By working practically towards this goal, we want to set examples for others to follow. Thanks to our partnership with Link for Aid, we welcome this opportunity to use music as an inspiring way for further our objectives,” said Phillip Couvaras, general manager of Traders Hotel, Yangon.
