China World Summit Wing, Beijing Welcomes Thomas Schmitt-Glaeser as General Manager

Thomas Schmitt-Glaeser has been appointed general manager of Shangri-La’s China World Summit Wing, Beijing. In his new capacity, he will oversee all daily operations of the highest luxury hotel in Beijing.

A German national, Mr. Schmitt-Glaeser brings strategic thinking and knowledge of Shangri-La hospitality from his diverse and rich career path in Asia. He previously worked as hotel manager of Shangri‑La Hotel, Singapore – the first hotel of the Shangri-La group – for more than two years. He held specific responsibility for all operational divisions. He also worked in the same capacity in the iconic Island Shangri-La Hotel, Hong Kong.

Prior to that, Mr. Schmitt-Glaeser was the executive assistant manager in charge of food and beverage at Pudong Shangri-La, Shanghai, where he was responsible for overall food and beverage operations, promotions and administration. Before moving to China, he was director of food and beverage at Shangri-La Hotel, Bangkok. He has 12 years of solid hospitality management experience in Asia and has also worked in Germany, England and Switzerland.

“I am glad to be back in China in this exciting new role,” said Mr. Schmitt- Glaeser on his well-deserved promotion. “As a general manager of such an exciting luxury hotel as China World Summit Wing, I see a lot of potential to develop it and make it the leader in the luxury market in China,” he added.

With more than 20 years of hospitality industry experience, Mr. Schmitt-Glaeser’s main passion remains to be high quality service and unique guest experiences that make one’s stay unforgettable. In his new position, he will leverage his wealth of experience to bring the hotel’s operations and service levels to even greater heights.
