After the Qin dynasty unified China, the sections of walls were restored and connected. It was again constructed in the Han and Ming dynasties on a large scale. The immensity of this project and the magnificence of its stance is seen as a miracle of the world. The temple faces south, with its back against Mount Baozhu, and covers a total area of more than 121 hectares. First built in the first year of Yongjia in Western Jin (307 AD), the temple was originally named "Jiafu Temple." Later Emperor Kangxi of the Qing dynasty granted it the name "Youyun Temple." Since a dragon pond (Pinyin: tan) lies behind the temple and cudrania (Pinyin: zhe) trees grow in the mountain, it has the folk name of "Tanzhe Temple." The whole temple was built according to the terrain by a clever layout. The environment is very beautiful with ancient trees towering and pagodas standing in great numbers in the temple.
