Stay

From the moment guests step inside, Shangri-La Qiantan makes a striking first impression. Thriving indoor greenery brings life to a lobby that fuses modern design with Shanghai’s traditional shikumen architecture. Arches, columns and stained-glass windows echo old alleyways and the city’s trading heritage, while walls and ceilings are filled with plants.

Sustainability features quietly underpin the hotel’s design throughout, including in-room filtered water taps that reduce single-use plastic, LED lighting and solar water heating to improve energy efficiency, and rainwater harvesting that conserves water for landscape irrigation. Together, these measures have helped earn the hotel a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Gold (LEED) certification and a two-star rating under Chinas Green Building Design Label.

Savour

At the hotel’s restaurants, sustainably and locally sourced ingredients sit at the heart of the menu. Chefs showcase regional produce and seasonal flavours in a range of signature dishes that reflect Shanghai’s character and its surroundings.

One example is Chongming golden melon. Grown in the mild climate of the Yangtze River estuary, it is known for its sweet fragrance and crisp texture, earning it the nickname “vegetarian jellyfish”. Hotel chefs pair Chongming golden melon with real jellyfish in a guest-favourite shredded jellyfish salad, combining local ingredients, culinary creativity and distinctive Shanghai flavours.

Shine

Shanghais Sanlin Town is a cultural centre for many traditional crafts, home to embroiderers, weavers, porcelain carvers, dragon dancers and more whose skills form part of the city’s intangible cultural heritage. Sanlin embroidery, with roots stretching back more than 700 years, is especially celebrated for its fine threads, dense and varied stitches, and rich colour palette.

In 2024, Shangri-La Qiantan partnered with the Sanlin Town Cultural Service Centre to host an embroidery workshop during the Dragon Boat Festival, teaching guests to embroider bookmarks and weave sachets in the shape of traditional zongzi dumplings. Activities like these introduce ancient crafts to wider audiences, create meaningful connections with local artisans and help keep enduring art forms alive.
