Built on the grounds of a former sapphire mine, this extraordinary course is the island’s first resort golf destination. The Landscape
The beautifully landscaped 18 hole par-70 course takes you on a memorable golf experience through three landscaped zones, each with its own unique character.
- The coconut plantation, offering lush fairways and challenging bunkers
- The Sapphire Mine, showcasing generous greens with an abundance of water
- The Dune Area, with its subtle elevation changes gives you breathtaking views of the Indian Ocean
The 5,584 metre Paspalum grass course is resilient to the tropical climate and allows the highest standards of course conditioning.
With our dedication to biodiversity and habitat protection, the course development was approached in an eco-friendly manner by revitalising an adbandoned Sapphire mine, restoring vegetation, re-introducing birdlife and using salt-tolerant turf.

Opening hours: 11am - 11pm
Inspired by Sri Lanka's colonial heritage, The clubhouse Ulpatha (meaning watering hole) overlooks the 18th green and welcomes all golfers and guests.
Ulpatha severs a selection of beers, spirits, cocktails and non-alcoholic drinks as well as local and international snacks and dishes in a relaxed, picturesque setting.
Ulpatha is the centre for sporting, social and recreational excellence, offering a pool table and a wide range of games to watch on TV.
Proshop
Avail a wide range of products from a selection of premium golf equipment, caps, polos, shoes and sun glasses, for total comfort and elegance.
Equipment Rental
Sets of clubs are available for hire at the Proshop.
Locker Rooms
With lockers, changing and shower facilities.
Bag Storage
Space available to store 100 golf bags.

Golf carts
Golf carts are available at an extra cost at the golf course.
Practice Net
A practice net is available to prepare for the course.
Golf shoes with soft spikes are compulsory on the golf course. Regular golf attire is required: shirts with collars, tailored trousers and Bermuda shorts. No denims, beach wear, tennis wear or training shoes are permitted on the golf course at any time.
Membership
The golf membership at Shangri-La Hambantota provides all the amenities you would expect from a world-class golf course, with two different categories of membership to suit golfers’ preferences.
