Opal Card

The Opal Card is an easy, convenient way of paying for your travel on transport services including trains, ferries, buses and light rail. 

 Instead of buying a paper ticket, you load value onto your Opal Card via a range of convenient options.  

The Opal Card is introducing a new era of convenience and provides the following fare incentives: 

  •  Take eight (8) paid journeys from Monday to Sunday and enjoy half-priced travel for the rest of the week  
  •  Sunday AUD 2.50 travel cap - travel as much as you want as an Opal customer from 4am, Sunday to 3.59am, Monday  
  •  A 30% off-peak discount via the external website on full-price Opal fares applies to all train journeys taken:  
    •  On weekends (up to AUD 2.50 cap on Sundays)  
    •  On public holidays  
    •  Before or after weekday mornings and afternoon peaks

Public Transit

Ferry 

The State Transit Authority operates Ferries from Circular Quay to Manly, Darling Harbour, Eastern suburbs, North Shore and Taronga Zoo. River Cats also operate from Parramatta and Homebush Bay to Circular Quay.

Light Rail 

Sydney's newest transport system travels from the city to Sydney's inner west including the Sydney Fish Markets, Darling Harbour and Star City.

Buses 

The State Government-owned State Transit Authority operates Sydney Buses and Newcastle Bus Services. Timetables are available by calling 131 500 or visiting http://www.131500.com.au/. Please note the majority of buses are pre-paid only; ticket stands are located in the main station areas.  

There are also numerous private bus companies providing services throughout New South Wales. Tourist buses such as Sydney Explorer and Bondi Explorer operate hop on / hop off services with commentary and guidebooks.

Taxis

Taxis are available 24 hours, but higher rates apply between 10pm and 6am. Taxis can be booked in advance by calling any one of several taxi networks.
