In response to the growing number of migrant children arriving in Beijing with their families in search of better work opportunities, a mentoring programme between China World Hotel, Beijing and Hua Ao School was established. Migrant workers live in simple rented housing located in the urban fringe, "city Villages" with poor living conditions and very low-income. Some of the children must help their parents by doing chores at home after school.
The programme commits 90 hotel volunteers to mentor and guide the students for a period of five years, focusing on career development and integration into city life. The volunteers keep close contact with the students through writing letters, text-messaging and face-to-face interactions.
China World Hotel, Beijing strongly believes in investment and empowerment of people. The care between colleagues and others, today, will enable them to extend themselves even more tomorrow and continue the notion of “pay it forward.”
Mid-Autumn Memories
Mid-Autumn Festival is a time of joyful reunions between families in China. China World Hotel, Beijing presented more than 3,000 mooncakes to students at Hua Ao School in October 2012.
In the same month, the hotel and Kerry Group Kuok Foundation collectively held an adulthood ceremony for the students who had been part of “Big Brothers & Big Sisters project” over the past four years. The children felt special and were very moved by the event.
