Shangri-La Shougang Park in Beijing opened in 2021 as one of the official hotels of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics. Located within the historic Shougang steelworks, the hotel transforms the former Shougang Power Plant into a contemporary urban oasis, turning an old industrial site into a greener, more sustainable destination for the city.

Shangri-La Shougang Park’s catering team is committed to a more sustainable food and beverage experience, with a strong emphasis on locally and responsibly sourced ingredients. Produce is brought from farm to table from the in-house chef’s farm, nearby suburban farms and local farmer’s markets, supporting regional growers and keeping supply chains closer to home. Food waste from the hotel is also used to generate electricity through a waste disposal and recovery programme, further reducing environmental impact.

Our people, suppliers and communities are of the utmost importance to us. As part of rejuvenating the former factory site, around 10% of the original factory employees were rehired and retrained to join the hotel, with new roles across Human Resources, Engineering, Food and Beverage, and Security. By offering upskilling and long-term employment opportunities, the hotel helps former workers transition into the service industry while keeping local knowledge and pride rooted in the renewed Shougang Park.
The hotel’s design incorporates the original framework of the former steel factory, reusing existing structures and materials. It also integrates energy- and water-saving features such as solar panels and a solar water heating, an underfloor air-conditioning system and rainwater harvesting equipment. Together, these features have helped the hotel achieve the top three-star rating under China’s Green Building Standard.
