Several ways
of travelling around Fiji Island exist. These include taxis, public transit and
car hire.
Taxis
Most taxis
are metered. If they are not, negotiate a price beforehand. Taxis are
relatively inexpensive in Fiji.
Public Transit
Buses
Open-sided
buses serve towns and cities and rural areas extensively. Although service is regular
within urban areas, buses may be crowded during peak hours.
Carriers and
mini vans are not metered, and are used in rural areas and cross-island
commuting.
Car Hire
Driving in
Fiji is on the right.
The island
has an extensive road highway around the main islands of Viti Levu and Vanua
Levu. Whilst driving on highways, watch out for cows and horses that frequently
stray onto the roads.
International
driving licenses are permitted.
