Akihabara
Akihabara is Tokyo’s Electric Town. From computers, mobile phones and games to televisions, cameras and watches, it is the hub of Japan’s gaming, manga and animatronics subculture.
Housing about 650,000 items at any given time, the biggest shopping mall in the area is Yodobashi Camera Multimedia Akiba, Electronic powerhouse Ishimaru Denki has nine branches in Akiharaba alone, four of which are exceptionally large stores.
Aficionados should look out for the Tokyo Animation Centre, which provides information and demonstrations on animation and gaming.
Ginza
One of the best-known shopping districts in the whole of Japan, if not the world, is Ginza. It is the site of fashionable boutiques, department stores, restaurants, jewellery shops, and international brand stores.
Kabukiza, featuring traditional Japanese Kabuki theatre, and Tsukiji, the world's largest fish market, are nearby.
