Important facts about Qinhuangdao

Qinhuangdao is named after the first Emperor of China, Qinshihuang, who journeyed to the city in 215 BC.


All international travellers require a visa except for citizens of the following countries:
Brunei, Japan and Singapore passport holders can enjoy 15 days visa-free access.

Standard 30-day, single-entry visas can be issued between three and five working days from majority of the Chinese embassies and must be used within three months from the date of issue. Longer visas are often more difficult to obtain.

The Chinese currency is known as renminbi (RMB) and is available in 1, 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 denomination banknotes.

Credit cards are accepted in major hotels as well as shopping malls. Cash and travellers cheques can be exchanged in licensed exchange offices and international hotels.

Daily wear is generally informal in Qinhuangdao. Winter requires heavy clothing, including coats, hats and gloves as temperatures can drop to well below freezing with strong winds. Light clothing is appropriate for spring and summer months.


Qinghuangdao has four distinct seasons: Dry and windy spring; hot and humid summer; cool and pleasant autumn; cold and dry winter.
