Restaurant Petrus’ wine team expertly matches the restaurant’s scrumptious creations to the hotel’s extensive collection of over 1,900 labels. The passionate team consists of 3 professional sommeliers overseen by Regional Wine Director and Master Sommelier, Yohann Jousselin.

Regional Wine Director – Yohann Jousselin 

Yohann Jousselin’s career in wine spans over 20 years. He has worked at some of the prestigious restaurants in the world, including Restaurant Gordon Ramsay in London, The Vineyards in Stockcross and Robuchon au Dôme in Macau. He attained the ultimate professional credential in wine service – the title of Master Sommelier – in 2009. Over the years, he has received a number of prestigious accolades, including “Best Sommelier in Hong Kong” by the Hong Kong Tatler Best Restaurants Guide and “China’s Outstanding Sommelier for Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan” at China’s Wine List of the Year Awards.

Under his guiding vision, Restaurant Petrus at Island Shangri-La, Hong Kong has been awarded the “Best Hotel Wine List” and “Best By-the-Glass Wine List Asia” by The World of Fine Wine magazine and “Best of Award of Excellence” by Wine Spectator. Additionally, Yohann has organized a series of highly successful wine dinners at Restaurant Petrus, making it the ultimate place in town for premium wines and iconic wine dinners.

Head Sommelier – Szabolcs Menesi 

Advanced Sommelier Szabolcs Menesi has been working in the wine and restaurant industry for over 12 years.  The Hungarian native started his career as a sales manager and sommelier at the House of French Wines in Budapest. He then expanded his career by moving to the United Kingdom and took up the role of head sommelier at Hotel du Vin and Bistro at Brighton. Szabolcs was later appointed the assistant head sommelier at the Maze by Gordon Ramsay in Mayfair, London, where he also completed the WSET Level 4 Diploma in 2014.

Sommelier – Cherish Ho 

Cherish Ho joined Restaurant Petrus in 2018, the same year he achieved the Advanced Sommelier Certificate with the Court of Master Sommeliers. During his 7 years in the food and beverage industry, expanding his knowledge in wine has always been Cherish’s true passion.  

Commis Sommelier – Calvin Choi 

The budding newcomer and youngest member of the team, Calvin Choi joined Restaurant Petrus in 2018 as commis sommelier to hone his skills with one of the best teams in Asia.
