SHANGRI-LA HOTEL, NANJING HOLDS MOTHER’S COOKING COMPETITION

Nanjing, 27 April 2015 - Shangri-La Hotel, Nanjing will celebrate Mother’s Day for the first time on 10 May 2015.

To give mom’s a unique celebration, the hotel organised a mother’s cooking competition at the end of April to encourage their participation. The winners’ dishes will be presented at buffet to enable more diners to taste the winning specialties.

Registration for the mother’s cooking competition was fierce, after the selection process, a total 15 mothers participated in the first competition. Mr. Terence Ng, Director of Food and Beverage, Mr. Joe Hou, Chinese Sous Chef, Mr. Tom Fan, Western Executive Chef, and Ms. Chen Jing, media partner and general manager of a French restaurant in Nanjing were the panel of judges who evaluated the dishes.

Although the entries were all home style, such as Braised Meat in Soy Sauce, Mixed Vegetable, Spicy Chicken, Steamed Fish, Sweet and Sour Pork Ribs and Roasted Crayfish, the judgers had difficult time selecting the winning dishes.

Three mothers won the first round of competition. The rewards included a  complimentary two-night stay at Shangri-La Hotel, Sanya as first prize, a complimentary two-night stay at Shangri-La Hotel, Hangzhou as second prize and a complimentary two-night stay at Shangri-La Hotel, Nanjing as third prize. All room stays included daily buffet breakfast for two persons. This competition received support from Yihai Kerry Foodstuffs Marketing Co. Ltd. Nanjing branch. They provided luxury hampers for the mothers who joined the final round.

Shangri-La Hotel, Nanjing is going to let mothers show their talent in front of others, indulge the way they like, that’s the reason we presented this cooking competition.” said by Mr. Terence Ng, the hotel’s Director of Food and Beverage. “We will keep doing more activities, such as International Children’s Day and Father’ Day in June, to encourage the people join us, feel the difference and unique celebration that Shangri-La presents.”
