Turtle Care Project
Caring for our yearly visitors
The beaches of Oman are one of the world’s most prolific breeding sites for five different species of sea turtles and Shangri-La just happens to be one of the top five turtle nesting sites in the country.
In line with our commitment to biodiversity conservation, we run a Turtle Care Project which aims to protect the endangered hawksbill and green turtle species native to our beach. Every year between February and September, more than 100 turtles are seen on our shores, producing thousands of hatchlings with the help of our dedicated Turtle Ranger who ensures their nests are sheltered from harm.
Our Turtle Ranger hosts daily "turtle talks" at the for guests of all ages.
In 2023, 154 turtles gave birth to 4,369 hatchlings.
