CHI, The Spa at Shangri-La Hotel, Sydney was awarded “Best Spa in Australasia and the South Pacific” at the 10th Annual Condé Nast Traveller Readers’ Spa Awards held on Wednesday 1 February 2012 in London.
The prestigious Readers Spa Awards are a result of a questionnaire completed by Condé Nast Traveller magazine’s 81,000 readers, who rated their favourite international spas around the world. The winners were revealed across 11 categories and the highest scorers were ranked in the world’s Top 30. This is the first time since its launch in 2010 that the CHI spa at Shangri-La Hotel, Sydney has received an award within Australasia and the South Pacific.
“We are honoured to have received this esteemed award and to be recognised as the spa leader in Australasia and the South Pacific by Condé Nast Traveller readers. I personally would like to acknowledge the contribution of our dedicated team led by Spa Manager Catherine Lazarou at CHI, The Spa, and of course, our valued guests for their continued and loyal support,” said Franz Donhauser, general manager of Shangri-La Hotel, Sydney.
CHI – Shangri-La’s signature spa brand – debuted in Australia at Shangri-La Hotel, Sydney in February 2010. CHI draws inspiration from the origins of the Shangri-La legend, a place of inner peace, enchantment and well-being. The spa features six luxurious private spa suites and offers guests over 24 treatments based on authentic natural healing methods found in the traditional well-being practices of many Asian cultures.
A spectrum of traditional Asian wellness massages, body therapies, facials and CHI journeys are available to guests, such as CHI Balance, Du Mai Back Therapy and CHI Healing Stone Massage. Another feature is the Sense of Place experiences featuring indigenous treatments inspired by the property’s location. At the CHI spa in Shangri-La Hotel, Sydney, guests can sample the Australian Botanical Retreat, which begins with a mild body polish, and is followed with a gentle healing wrap and a relaxing full body massage using lemon myrtle body butter.
Inspired by the Asian principles of harmony and balance, the spa interiors are designed to give guests the utmost privacy and a sense of detachment from the outside world. A rich tapestry of Asian artefacts, warm woods and specially designed ambient lighting bathe the space in a calming yet mystical glow. Each of the six suites is a “spa within a spa” that allows guests to indulge in the luxury of personal space, providing guests with their own private changing area and an aroma steam shower to enjoy before treatments. Three of the suites feature infinity edge spa tubs for relaxing soaks.
