Shangri-La Hotel, Qingdao returns to Qi Ji school to Rebuild A New Future

As the Mid-Autumn Festival approaches, Shangri-La Hotel, Qingdao pays Qi Ji School a return visit to deliver its sincere holiday wishes.

Shangri-La Hotel, Qingdao adopted Qi Ji School as its long-term corporate social responsibility project in 2014.  Since then, the school has shown noticeable improvements on its entire teaching and living conditions. The basic facility building has become a scale.

Situated in Lin Nan Village of Lin Yi County, Shandong Province, Qi Ji School has 205 students and 16 teachers. Majority of the students are unattended as their parents are at work. The school faced the big financial challenge of maintaining and repairing many of its facilities. Moreover, its educational materials were poor and unsafe.

Shangri-La Hotel, Qingdao set up and donated Rmb200,000 as special funds to rebuild the school in two consecutive years. After the first phase of refurbishment, the school’s physical structure improved, setting up a safe and positive learning environment for the students.

To better improve the school’s condition and continue Shangri-La’s “Embrace” programme, the hotel volunteers paid the school a return visit before the Mid-Autumn Festival, bringing with them some moon cakes and stationery. At the same time, they inspected the school’s new library called “Weekend Book House”, which is used to enrich the children’s extracurricular lives and help them enhance their knowledge.  Hotel volunteers played several interactive games with the students and gave prizes to the winners.

Over the years, Shangri-La Hotel, Qingdao has sought the effective way to give back to society through corporate social responsibility. The hotel partnered with Qingdao Red Cross Society from 2010 to 2013 and supported the Blue Collar Assistance Project with a charity donation of Rmb400,000.  It has supported a total of 160 students from poor families in completing their studies to enable them to contribute to society.
