Shangri-La Hotel, Qingdao donates funds for living waters project

Qingdao, China, 23 October 2013 – Shangri-La Hotel, Qingdao has donated RMB174,040 to Ping Du City Jiudian Town Xin Li Jia Village for its living waters project.  This project is aimed at ensuring that 306 inhabitants of the small and poverty village in the town of Jiu Dian will have access to potable water through a water supply network.  The hotel provided assistance and donations to purchase raw materials and construction pipes for water distribution to the villagers’ homes.  The project was completed on 23 October 2013. 

This is the second consecutive year that the hotel has participated in living waters project.  In 2012, Shangri-La Hotel, Qingdao donated RMB169,120 to another small village in Ping Du City for its living waters project. We assisted 857 villagers to have potable water at home. 

“Shangri-La Hotel, Qingdao strives to be a hotel that is unique and continuously makes effort to contribute to its surrounding communities,” General Manager Henry Lee said.  “Water is a basic need. Living waters problem became a major challenge, which constrained local agriculture development and affected inhabitant living quality.  This is why we support the living water project.  We see it as part of our responsibility to care for those in need.” 

As part of Shangri-La Hotel, Qingdao’s ongoing effort to educate colleagues on water-saving techniques, posters on reducing water wastage have been placed near water taps in addition to ensuring that colleagues adhere to the hotel’s best practices on saving water in their daily activities.
