STAR Breaks Fast at Children's Home

Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia, 29 May 2019 – Shangri-La’s Tanjung Aru Resort & Spa’s Financial Controller Douglas Chong (left) and colleagues give out gifts to children of the Madrasah Waqaf Islamiah Home in Tanjung Aru during the resort’s recent visit in conjunction with the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations.

More than eighty management and staff of Shangri-La’s Tanjung Aru Resort & Spa brought food and goodies to the Madrasah Waqaf Islamiah Home in Tanjung Aru to break fast with 80 orphans and the home’s caretakers recently as part of the resort’s Corporate Social Responsibility programme.

The home provides love and care for children from around the state, said the resort’s Corporate Social Responsibility – Service Leader Joyce Murang. The resort selects a different home to break fast with every year during Ramadan and invites its staff to join.

Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts remains committed to operating in an economically, socially and environmentally responsible manner whilst balancing the interests of diverse stakeholders. In striving to be a leader in corporate citizenship and sustainable development, a corporate-level CSR Committee drives the company’s initiatives in the strategic areas of stakeholder relations, environment, health and safety, supply chain and employees. These focus areas are unified under the umbrella brand of “Sustainability”, together with Shangri-La’s core CSR projects “Embrace” and “Sanctuary”. Hotel-level Embrace programmes focus on Shangri-La’s Care for People Project, which aims to promote the highest level of education and health support in underprivileged communities. Sanctuary programmes concentrate on Shangri-La’s Care for Nature Project, which promotes the conservation and restoration of biodiversity.
