Yohann Jousselin is Island Shangri-La Hong Kong’s hotel sommelier. As such, he is in charge of the hotel’s cellar collection of over 1,800 references and 20,000 bottles of wines. Yohann focuses on pairing the hotel's frequently changing gastronomic menus with unique wines and offers loyal clientele the continuous enjoyment of the best epicurean meals.
Yohann's career in wine spans over 14 years. He has worked at some of the most prestigious restaurants in Europe and also attained the ultimate professional credential pertaining to wine – master sommelier – which can only be accomplished by obtaining various levels of certification and undergoing a stringent and thorough career assessment. This all requires at least 10 years of professional experience. Before attending wine school, Yohann became interested in wine at an early age while helping at his uncle’s vineyard in Loire Valley, France. With the dedication to pursue a career in wine and the desire to broaden his horizons, he decided to relocate to the United Kingdom. He soon had the opportunity to work at Hotel du Vin. Here, he was mentored by Master Sommelier Dimitri Mesnard, a man who encouraged him to enter competitions to increase his wine knowledge and develop his skills as a sommelier. In 2011, Yohann took home the U.K. Sommelier of the Year award before moving to Macau and taking on the role of head sommelier at Robuchon au Dôme at the Grand Lisboa.
Under his guiding vision, Restaurant Petrus has been given World of Fine Wine magazine’s “Best Asia Wine List of the Year 2014” award and Wine Spectator's “Best of Award of Excellence” for 14 consecutive years for having one of the most outstanding restaurant wine lists in the world. Yohann was also named “Best Sommelier in Hong Kong” by Hong Kong Tatler’s Best Restaurants Guide 2015. Additionally, Yohann has organised a series of successful wine dinners at Restaurant Petrus, including the quarterly Iconic Wine Dinner, which features the world’s most premium wines, and exquisite wine dinners that showcase the legendary Mouton Rothschild and Lafite-Rothschild.
