Bangkok, 4 October 2013 – ShangPalace at Shangri-La Hotel, Bangkok unveiled authentic Cantonese cuisine on 27 September 2013 after embarking on an intensive refurbishment programme worth more than US$4 million for the Chinese restaurant in April 2013. The new ShangPalace, with its stylish décor in rich Chinese heritage, offers distinguished private rooms and decentralised kitchen area with state-of-the-art equipment. Three new talented chefs from Hong Kong create their signature Chinese delicacies, including dim sum and barbecue dishes.
ShangPalace presents a splendid interior designed by the Hospitality & Leisure Asia (HLA), a leading designer in Hong Kong. It features lace fretwork screens veiling the view of a gilded Happy Buddha, an icon of ShangPalace that symbolises excellent health, happiness and longevity. The restaurant also presents celestial carpets, red Tang dynasty-inspired chairs, hand-painted silk motifs of exotic floral and birds and stained glass windows. The designer has also allocated a spacious area where guests can view natural lighting through large glass windows.
The decentralised kitchen area, which is the heart of ShangPalace, is structured and designed to maximise efficient food preparation and production. In addition to the main cooking section, dim sum and barbecue chefs can cook signature dishes in their own kitchens, while a separate live seafood kitchen is a treasure stove for cooking and serving fresh seafood dishes to guests.
ShangPalace continues to offer authentic Cantonese cuisine created by the restaurant’s new executive Chinese chef, Sham Yun Ming, a Cantonese master who has more than 35 years of solid experience in culinary.
Main quality ingredients are imported from the regional province where the original recipe comes from. The new ShangPalace menu showcases an extensive selection of à la cartedishes, including live seafood and barbecue specialties, desserts, and more than two dozen dim sum dishes. Classic Chinese music and a musician performing the sitar enhances the dining atmosphere at dinner.
The restaurant’s signature dishes include ShangPalace’s Bird’s Nest with Crab Roe and Crab Meat, Double-Boiled Chicken Soup with Fish Maw and Top Shell, Hong Kong-Style Roasted Goose, Traditional Roasted Whole Peking Duck and Dumpling Soup with Bird’s Nest and Chicken.
Tea drinking is an integral part when enjoying Chinese cuisine. Diners can explore a variety of rare tea leaves from China beyond the popular oolong and green tea and all premium Chinese tea from a tea trolley service. The beverage menu also features Chinese white wine and the finest cognac and bourbon.
The restaurant has a capacity of 296. Guests with a party of 10 to 110 can enjoy their meal in the main dining area or in one of five private rooms. The five private rooms, each with its own elegant setting, presents a unique collection of artwork and lattice works with fabric-glass features that serve as ornament to the doors and add translucency to the rooms. All private rooms have individual music controls, self-contained lighting, air conditioning and high-speed Internet access.
Ideally designed to serve the needs of all types of guests from business lunches, family reunions to social gatherings and celebrations, such as birthday celebration, engagement party, private room bookings and extra privileges for five or more tables, ShangPalace offers several special celebration packages for guests.
The restaurant is open daily from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for lunch from Monday to Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for lunch on Sunday and from 5:30 to 10:30 p.m. daily for dinner.
