Taking Special Care

Traders Hotel, Qaryat Al Beri, Abu Dhabi

The Special Care Centre (SCC) is an accredited organisation registered with the Ministry of Social Affairs as an establishment for disabled care and rehabilitation. It is also a non-profit organisation that relies heavily on donations and volunteers.

As a partner of this organisation, Traders Hotel, Abu Dhabi shows its support by conducting swimming lessons for their intellectually disabled students, carrying out fire, life and safety inspections at the centre, sponsoring their events and attending their Fun Day, Sports Day and Talent Show.

As part of our Embrace programme, we have Avinash Mohan, an 18-year old student of SCC’s senior class, who we are considering to be a mini-bar trainee. He follows instructions and carries out his tasks efficiently. He assists in simple day-to-day office tasks and has basic computer skills, therefore is an eligible candidate.

Together with SCC, we are currently coordinating Fun Day activities as well as finalising the employment requirements for Avinash Mohan so that he can begin training. Once his programme has progressed six months, we plan to look at hiring additional colleagues. We also plan to introduce teacher training at SCC in the future.

We plan to have an exhibit of SCC’s handicrafts and artwork at the hotel, around the same time as Ramadan. A possible partnership with another Abu Dhabi autism school is also being considered.
