Island Shangri-La’s culinary offerings for Chinese New Year showcase the finest seasonal ingredients and traditional recipes, reimagined by the hotel’s master chefs. Forever a highlight of the Chinese New Year, Island Shangri-La offers several ways for families and friends to enjoy the joyous, boisterous tradition of lo hei, at cafe TOO and Ming Pavilion, with every ingredient carrying a significant, auspicious meaning to welcome greater abundance and prosperity.

Lo Hei with Island Shangri-La 

Forever one of the highlights of the Lunar New Year, Island Shangri-La offers several ways for families and friends to enjoy the joyous, boisterous tradition of lohei, with every ingredient carrying a significant, auspicious meaning to welcome greater abundance and prosperity. The perfect place for families to celebrate together, this year cafe TOO has a special Lo Hei station where guests can have fun making their own. Guests can choose from a variety of premium ingredients including Hokkigai, salmon, tuna, octopus, jelly fish and all the requisite vegetables and flavourings.

And finally, Ming Pavilion has created a Fujian style Lo Hei with a vibrant salad consisting of matsutake mushrooms, crispy taro, and a combination of live Japanese sea whelk and He Tian chicken, served with a special yuzu sauce. Family and friends come together to toss the ingredients while exchanging good wishes, representing the act of inviting abundance and happiness into one’s life for the coming year.

Summer Palace: A Cantonese Reunion 

Michelin-starred Summer Palace presents a festive menu with seasonal recommendations. Delight in auspicious dim sum creations such as "Nian Nian You Yu" Soup Dumplings with assorted diced meat, abalone and conpoy; "Long Feng Cheng Xiang" Vietnamese-style Rice Rolls with deep-fried crispy shrimp; and "Zhao Cai Jin Bao" Deep-fried Turnip Cakes with diced aired dried meat and brown garlic. Ming Pavilion, helmed by Chef Jack Lam, invites families to partake in an exceptional dining experience to honour the traditions and celebrations of Chinese New Year. Chinese New year Set Menu features a culinary journey that captures the spirit of prosperity and good fortune typical of the festive season, including a traditional Lo Hei, Double Boiled Fish Maw, Matsutake Mushroom and Chicken Soup, Minnan Traditional Steamed Coral Red garoupa with Xuanwei Ham and Shitake Mushroom, Fried Rice with Scallop, Xia Pu Seaweed and Salted Egg Yolk, and more.

Ideal for reunion gatherings, Ming Pavilion’s Fujian Buddha Jump Over The Wall Poon Choi showcases premium ingredients including fish maw, sea cucumber, golden dried oysters, dried scallops, South African 6-head abalone, live fresh prawns, Hetian chicken, pork hock, quail eggs, black moss (fat choy), taro and Chinese arrowhead, brought together in a hearty, auspicious feast. With its abundant layering and “treasures” in every scoop, poon choi is traditionally enjoyed with the belief that it ushers in prosperity, good fortune and a bountiful year ahead.
