SHANGRI-LA HOTEL, TOKYO AND SECOND HARVEST JAPAN LAUNCH “100,000 MEAL CHALLENGE: PARTNERS IN A FOOD SUPPORT FOR JAPAN”

Tokyo, 1 April 2015 – Shangri-La Hotel, Tokyo announces a new social media and donation-matching campaign in cooperation with Second Harvest Japan.  Timed to coincide with the enactment of Support for the Poor Persons Act, a new law in Japan that will facilitate aid to those in need, the campaign’s goal is to raise funds equivalent to 100,000 meals throughout the month of April.  Shangri-La Hotel, Tokyo has allocated ¥5,000,000 for this campaign.

The 100,000 Meal Challenge will highlight the importance of food support to those lacking food security.  Supporters will be able to participate in the campaign by liking and sharing Second Harvest’s related posts, as well as by becoming followers of Second Harvest Japan’s Facebook page.  Each action will generate a set number of meals donated by Shangri-La Hotel, Tokyo to Second Harvest Japan.  In addition, for every cash donation of ¥10,000 or more made in April through Second Harvest Japan’s website, Shangri-La Hotel, Tokyo will match the amount by doubling it.

The social media portion of the 100,000 Meal Challenge will offer anyone with a Facebook account the opportunity to support Second Harvest Japan in an easy, fun and interactive way.  For every “like” generated on the campaign page, Shangri-La Hotel, Tokyo will donate ¥50 or the equivalent of two meals.  Each “share” will generate a donation of ¥100 or just over four meals.  Each time a person “follows” Second Harvest Japan on Facebook, Shangri-La Hotel, Tokyo will donate ¥1,000, equivalent to 42.5 meals.  The campaign will run from 1 to 30 April 2015.  For further information, visit Second Harvest Japan’s Facebook page and their website.

Upon ending the campaign, Second Harvest Japan will announce the outcome of the 100,000 Meal Challenge through its Facebook page, followed by a public announcement.
