Ito & Friends Play At Arthur’s Bar & Grill

Ito & Friends Play At Arthur’s Bar & Grill

The Blues Gang ruled the air waves in the 1980s with hits like Apo Nak DiKato, Khatulistiwa and Katakan. Most of these songs were composed by Mohd Ito, the group’s lead vocalist and harmonica player. Ito & Friends are now playing at Arthur’s Bar & Grill every Friday from 9pm onwards.

Ito recorded 12 albums with the Blues Gang and 10 solo albums. Among the popular hits in his own albums were Perempuan, Lamo Tak Jumpo and Ubah Sekarang (his most recent). He also wrote two songs for the popular TV cartoon series Upin & Ipin – Dami and Indahnya Panorama. Ito has made recordings in Singapore and Jakarta, and performed in Australia and Thailand. In 2011 he played in a concert with the Blues Gang and Sweet Charity in Stadium Merdeka and thrilled fans from both Malaysia and Singapore.

Artstream and David Gomes

Also playing at Arthur’s Bar & Grill are Artstream on Wednesday and David Gomes on Thursday.

Artstream comprises Suresh and Rizal, both versatile vocalists with pop, rock and blues in their extensive song list. Suresh has won prizes in well-known song competitions and was the opening act for Lea Salonga at the Greener World Campaign Concert organized by Carlsberg in Kuala Lumpur.

Notably, he sang the patriotic song Timor Leste to mark East Timor’s Independence day. He sang it in English, Bahasa Indonesia, Tetun (mother tongue of the Timorese) and Portuguese.

Rizal is the virtuoso on both the guitar and keyboards, which has made him a much sought after studio sessionist for the local recording industry as well as a backing musician for shows and concerts featuring recording artists. His husky, melodic voice has always kept his audience enthralled.

David Gomes gets the audience swinging to jazz standards at Arthur’s Bar & Grill. He is an established name on the KL jazz scene.  He’s an accomplished pianist and singer, as well as composer, arranger and producer.

David has performed in Australia, UK, Holland, Germany, Singapore and Thailand. He fronted the only two Malaysian jazz outfits to perform at the world’s biggest music festival – The North Sea Jazz Festival in Holland.

He has produced his own jazz albums, and has produced and musically directed theatre productions such as Tributes to Ella Fitzgerald, Nat King Cole and Frank Sinatra featuring a 13-piece mini orchestra.
