Shangri-La Hotel, Tokyo is Selected as the No. 1 Luxury Hotel in the World at the Traveler's Choice Awards 2012 by TripAdvisor

Shangri-La Hotel, Tokyo has been selected as No. 1 of the Top 25 Luxury Hotels in the World in TripAdvisor's Travelers' Choice Award 2012.

The awards are based on the reviews and opinions from travellers around the world. Shangri-La Hotel, Tokyo was chosen as the number one in the Luxury (4 & 5 star) Hotel in the World category and is the first hotel in Japan to win a Traveler’s Choice  Award.

The Traveler’s Choice Awards take place every January and 2012 is the 10th year of the awards. The categories were expanded to include 30 countries and eight regions worldwide. A total of 3,943 properties were recognised by the American-based company. Other awards included “Best Service,” “Best Bargain,” “Trendiest Hotel,’ and “Best Relaxation and Spa.” Judging included the evaluation of 60 million comments from users on the quality of service, guest rooms and price.

Reviewers praised the service, the personal touch from staff, and the facilities at  Shangri-La Hotel, Tokyo. “Service was simply flawless, from the concierge team that met me at Tokyo station and escorted me to the hotel, to the reception team that helped organise my daily business excursions into Tokyo,” said one reviewer. “I loved the cotton pyjamas they lay out for me each day. Getting into them after a shower at the end of a long day was just so relaxing. It is the ambience in the room that makes a difference,” commented another. Others noted that Shangri-La Hotel, Tokyo offers extra facilities as well as a high quality of service. “Gorgeous rooms, outstanding restaurants, flawless spa, outstanding service and even free Wi-Fi,” remarked one reviewer.

The 200-room Shangri-La Hotel, Tokyo opened on 2 March 2009 as Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts' first property in Japan.  The hotel occupies the top 11 floors of the 37-floor, mixed-use Marunouchi Trust Tower Main building, located adjacent and with direct access to Tokyo Station, which serves as the terminus of the Shinkansen bullet train network that extends nationwide as well as the city’s railway hub that connects local train and subway lines with regional services. The hotel offers a complimentary “Meet and Greet” service at the train platforms of Tokyo Station for a short walk to the hotel.
