Le Bar Botaniste : The new Parisian Bar

Le Bar Botaniste : The new Parisian Bar

Paris, August 31st 2016 – In September 2016 Shangri-La Hotel, Paris will unveil its new bar concept - Le Bar Botaniste.

Honoring the favorite pastime of the palace’s original resident, Prince Roland Bonaparte, Le Bar Botaniste will celebrate botany through rare botanical spirits and an atmosphere to match. Prince Roland, the grandnephew of Napoleon Bonaparte, assembled the world’s largest private plant collection. While Palais d’Iena no longer houses this collection, Le Bar Botaniste will honor its spirit with an extensive menu of exclusive cocktail creations and carefully selected liquors. The nature-inspired bar will feature plants under cloches in each corner, authentic absinthe fountains and new retro-chic uniforms for the staff.

A purist approach
Developed over the course of six months by Head Barman Arnaud Thirel and his team, the menu will highlight rare génépi, absinthe and chartreuse. The team sourced the best spirits in each category, focusing on lesser-known traditional houses, to bring unique experiences and tastes to guests. The spirits include: 23 different gins and premium tonics, producing over 200 possible gin and tonic combinations; aged absinthes; and the best chartreuses and highly rare Tarragones, both selected with the help of the famous Bossetti cellars.

15 signature cocktails
The signature cocktail menu includes 15 different creations prepared with unique ingredients and impressive presentations. From the bartender’s shake and stir to the guest’s sip and smile, Le Bar Botaniste is sure to provide an unforgettable experience.

A selection of cocktails to be enjoyed from September

  • Zacao consists of Zacapa rum, vermouth, cocoa nib syrup and Sichuan peppercorns. The cocktail is served straight in a cocoa pod accompanied by a delicious chocolate tart created by Pastry Chef Michaël Bartocetti.
  • Genesis is created with génépi, lime juice and ginger beer and is presented on a wooden log adorned with a fir branch and a lollipop infused with fir sprouts.
  • The Vanilla Sky is an interpretation of a Manhattan with Bulleit Rye Whisky infused with Amarena cherries, vanilla, cinnamon and vermouth presented in a bottle with an imprinted red wax seal to take home.
  • A twist on the classic absinthe cocktail, the Main Verte (or Green Hand) is created with absinthe, served in a striated crystal glass, with a rose lemon candy sugar placed on a silver absinthe spoon.
  • The Bumble Bee is a concoction of cognac, lavender honey, lemon and tonka beans and is served with a crispy wafer that resembles golden honeycomb from a beehive.
  • Last but not least, Cyrus is made with vodka infused with Middle Eastern black lemon (dried limes) and Jean de Lillet vintage aperitif that strikes a metallic note highlighted by the lemon.

Cocktails without alcohol at a price of 20 € (about USD22) - cocktails with alcohol at a price of 27 € (about USD30). Bar Botaniste is open daily from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. – reservation not required.
