Shangri-La Hotel, Sydney Celebrates Chinese New Year

Shangri-La Hotel, Sydney celebrates the Year of the Rooster with a traditional lion dance, a sumptuous Chinese New Year seafood buffet, and an Asian Fusion High Tea between 27 January and 7 February 2017.

Shangri-La is the only hotel in Sydney to welcome Lunar New Year with a lion dance throughout 36 levels of the hotel, where guests can take part by feeding the lion lettuce leaves and red pocket envelopes for prosperity and good fortune.

Diners can get set to shake a tail feather at a bountiful Asian-inspired seafood buffet, which includes a live noodle station, a San Choi Bao station and everyone’s favourite Chinese New Year delicacy, Beijing Duck Pancakes.

Each mouthful is a sensory journey of regional Chinese specialties, such as Honey-Glazed BBQ Pork, Clay Pot offerings, cold Sucking Pig, Lotus Seed Noodle Salad and Steamed Sticky Black Rice with Meat and Seafood, to name a few.

Guests can paint the town red with Executive Pastry Chef Anna Polyviou’s Asian twist on High Tea, which features Green Tea Cake with Strawberry and White Chocolate, Roast Duck, Cucumber and Hoisin Sauce wrapped in a Pancake, Yum Cha served in bamboo steamer baskets and more.

Shangri-La Head Chef Bo Sorensen has created a sweet and savoury Lunar New Year journey which blends the best of Eastern and Western cultures.

“Chinese New Year is such an important time at Shangri-La, with our hotel’s Asian roots, and we celebrate with a moving feast of authentic delights surrounded by family and friends,” Sorensen said.
