Welcoming New Executive Chef, Gerhard Gerber

Surabaya, Indonesia, October 2013 - Gerhard Gerber, is the new Executive Chef in-charge for seven (7) restaurants and banqueting at Shangri-La Hotel, Surabaya. He transfers from the Shangri-La Hotel Mumbai and joins the hotel on 1 October 2013. He is new to Indonesia and Surabaya, but he is no stranger in Asian cuisine.

Chef Gerber brings more than 25 years’ experience in food and beverage concepts. His experience includes leadership in kitchen at other international chain five-star hotel in India, Switzerland, Japan, Taiwan, Singapore, Maldives and New Zealand.

He is Swiss / New Zealand dual citizen and started his career in Food & Beverage as an Apprentice Chef in a small boutique hotel in Switzerland on 1986. His passion of Food and Beverage has leaded him to become Executive Chef of a 5-star luxury lodge in New Zealand in 2000.

Chef Gerber and his lovely Japanese wife are the parents of a handsome son. Apart from his passion for cooking, he spends his rest time with his family, loves to travel, ski and play ice hockey. Chef Gerber also likes to listen to music and learn more about different culture.

By joining Shangri-La Hotel, Surabaya, Chef Gerber hopes that he can bring new exciting ideas to both Western and Asian dining.
