18th Anniversary on 18 January 2013

Shangri-La Hotel, Surabaya opened its door on 18 January 1995, and will celebrate its 18th anniversary on 18 January 2013.  An 18-year journey is not short, and many things have happened during that period.  The dedication, professionalism and commitment of staff has enabled the hotel to become better and bigger while maintaining a high level of personal service.

To commemorate this special event, a cake‑cutting ceremony was arranged in the lobby area at Shangri‑La Hotel, Surabaya on 18 January 2013.  Eighteen lucky guests shared the happiness of the day – from 1 to 15 January 2013, a photograph contest was held through Shangri-La Hotel, Surabaya’s Facebook fan page.  People had to submit old memorable pictures taken at the hotel.  Three winners from the photograph contest received complimentary vouchers to stay in a Deluxe Room and enjoy dinner at Jamoo Restaurant.  Fifteen lucky people who won door prizes received complimentary vouchers to stay in a Deluxe Room, dine in the hotel’s restaurants or enjoy a spa treatment.  All the 18 lucky winners were invited to celebrate the hotel’s 18th anniversary and to receive their prizes during the cake-cutting ceremony.

The pastry and artist team created a miniature of Shangri-La Hotel, Surabaya’s building for the 18th anniversary cake.  The cake is 1 metre wide and has a height of 0.8 metres, to be in line with the number 18.

The hotel’s management team prepared special gifts and certificates for all Shangri-La Hotel, Surabaya employees, including the 85 employees who have worked at the hotel since the pre-opening of the hotel more than 18 years ago.  In addition, the management team together with the kitchen team prepared a special menu at Horizon Café, the employee’s dining room.  At lunchtime on the anniversary day, General Manager Martin Brenner together with members of the hotel’s Executive Committee and the heads of departments served lunch for all employees.

“We wanted to show our appreciation for all the dedication of the employees.  They work hard and give their best to this hotel,” said Mr. Brenner.

In the lobby area from 17 to 27 January 2013, there is an exhibition of photographsof Shangri-La Hotel, Surabaya.  In the photographs, the hotel can be seen at all stages of its development – from the beginning, when it was just a market area, through construction, refurbishment of its rooms and renovation of the facilities, right up until the events arranged for the 18th anniversary.
