Luigi Ferraro joins Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah Resort & Spa as Italian Resort Chef 

  

Muscat, Oman – October 2017,Luigi Ferraro has joined Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah Resort & Spa as Italian Resort Chef. Prior to this he was based in India as Italian Chef at the Sorrento restaurant in Shangri-la’s Eros Hotel, New Delhi. As Resort Italian Chef, he will elevate Italian cuisine across Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah Resort & Spa with a very special attention to developing the menu at Capri Court, the resort’s well-loved Italian restaurant.  

  

Chef Luigi studied at the Hotel School of Castrovillari in Italy and has worked as a chef in many cities, including Stuttgart, Bangkok, London, Paris, George Town, St. Petersburg and New York. With previous experience in two and three Michelin star restaurants, his cuisine is a fusion of his roots and the exotic flavours from the lands he has lived and worked in resulting in an authentic and delicious blend of simplicity and creativity on a plate.  

  

Professionally, Chef Luigi recognizes the right value of modern techniques and shows in every detail the commitment with high quality standards. His creations are a mix of simple, creative and absolutely unique dishes that will give the guests an amazing experience to taste and remember. He loves to discover different realities, to mould things according to his taste, to learn from everyone and everything. He is stimulated and fascinated by every kitchen he steps in. This process makes him revisit and merge new cultures with his own to breathe life into new dishes resulting in dynamic dishes. 

  

Originally from Calabria in Southern Italy, Chef Luigi has conquered many professional achievements. Soon after reaching New Delhi, in January 2016, he won Best Chef in India in the Best Modern European Cuisine category at the Top Chef 2016 Awards. In 2013 he won two gold medals at the “‘International Kremlin Culinary Cup” in Moscow in the Hot Dishes and Artistic Dishes categories.  

  

Chef Luigi represented his native of Calabria at International Gastronomic Shows including World Travel Market in London in November 2007, The International Wine and Food Society in the Cayman Islands in March 2009, the Westchester Italian Cultural Center in New York in October 2009, èCosenza Food and Wine in Moscow in April 2012 at which he was honored with the title of “Ambassador of Calabria Cuisine in the World”. 

  

Passionate about sharing his culinary skills, Chef Luigi taught as Creative Cuisine professor at the Italian Institute for Advanced Culinary and Pastry Arts for one year in 2014, and in 2015 he published his first book Calabria in Tutti i Sensi – Un Viaggio con Luigi Ferraro (Calabria in every way – A journey with Luigi Ferraro) in co-operation with Master Photographer Riccardo Marcialis and published by Rubbettino Editore.
