Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort & Spa, Cebu Welcomes New Chef De Cuisine Rizki Wijatmoko

Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort & Spa, Cebu Welcomes New Chef De Cuisine Rizki Wijatmoko

Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort & Spa, Cebu welcomes its new chef de cuisine, Rizki Wijatmoko, to its all-day-dining restaurant, Tides.

The amiable Indonesian national joins the resort from sister property Shangri-La’s Hambantota Golf Resort & Spa, Sri Lanka, where he oversaw Sera, the Asian restaurant. Prior to joining the Shangri-La family, Chef Rizki worked at various five-star properties in Qatar, the Maldives and South Korea.

Chef Rizki always knew he wanted to become a professional chef. His lifetime of experience is rooted in a solidly culinary family background. His father is an executive chef in their hometown of Jakarta, one of his brothers is an executive sous chef, while the other brother is a restaurateur and their mother manages a catering business.

Growing up, Chef Rizki would assist his mother in her catering preparations, learning basic skills and observing how she cooked certain dishes. Even now, he sends photos of his creations, inspired by her recipes, to her for her approval.

During his university years, he would spend holidays working alongside his father in hotel kitchens, polishing his craft with guidance from his role model and mentor.

This work ethic is what he brings to Tides, along with a caring, team-oriented philosophy that focuses on creative collaborations with his fellow chefs, as well as engaging with diners, whom he says are not merely guests to feed.

“Cooking is about putting your heart on a plate,” Chef Rizki said.

He is delighted to introduce several signature dishes to his new award-winning restaurant, which was named to the Philippine Tatler’s Best Restaurants Guide 2018. Each dish is a special product, created with thoughtfulness and a keen appreciation for the warmth of feeling that exceptional food always inspires.
