Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort & Spa, Cebu Supports Children’s Haven Orphanage with a Charity Bike Out

Cebu, Philippines, August 2, 2018 - Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort & Spa, Cebu began activities in the run-up to the highly anticipated Regent Aguila IRONMAN 70.3 Asia-Pacific Championship with a charity bike out to the Children’s Haven Orphanage in Cordova, Cebu.

Now in the third year of its partnership with the orphanage, the resort has pledged to build a sustainable garden with a rainwater harvesting system which will provide young residents easy and safe access to healthy greens, save costs on utility bills and develop the values of stewardship and resourcefulness.

The resort’s own team of triathletes, headed by General Manager René D. Egle, biked the 24 kilometers from the resort to the orphanage and back. At Children’s Haven, the team shared a hearty breakfast with the children and turned over a generous amount collected over the last two years.

In addition to raising awareness with the latest bike-outs, the resort is providing special souvenir Ironman-themed shirts to guests who make a minimum donation of PHP650 to the orphanage. Limited-edition shirts signed by select professional triathletes, including last year’s men’s champion, Tim Reed, will also be available through a silent auction. The event will run through race week and winning bids will be announced at the post-race roll down.
