Shangri-La's Fijian Resort & Spa to Donate Part of Shangri-La Pro-Am Sponsorship to Cyclone Winston Relief Work

Coral Coast, Fiji, 30 May 2016 – Shangri-La’s Fijian Resort & Spa will donate 5% of all sponsorship of the 2016 Shangri-La Fiji Pro-Am to relief work for communities devastated by Cyclone Winston.

The one-day Shangri-La Pro-Am which will be held on Thursday 2nd June, 2016 at the resort has attracted 28 sponsors and close to $40,000 worth of sponsorship.
“Our relief work for Cyclone Winston started immediately in the aftermath and we will donate five per cent of the sponsorship pledges towards the relief work that we will commence shortly in Rakiraki,” said Shangri-La’s Fijian Resort and Spa, General Manager, Mr Craig Powell. “We are overwhelmed at the generosity of our sponsors who have made a commitment to this and while we already have resources at our disposal we felt that any additional assistance could extend what we had already planned in terms of relief work in communities who still need our help,” Mr Powell said.
The 2016 Shangri-La Pro-Am, which is held annually, is the pre-cursor to a visit to Rakiraki in June, by a team of volunteers from the resort, to provide relief work in partnership with the Fiji Red Cross. “Our priority following Cyclone Winston was to look after our own colleagues in helping them rebuilding their family homes wherever they were located in Fiji as well as communities in the northern division who were affected,” Mr Powell said. “We also contacted the Fiji Red Cross as we felt they were well placed to help us reach out further as we wanted to ensure that the best possible assistance would go out to communities in need.

“Fiji Red Cross recently took a member of our team to Ra to identify where we would go and what we needed to do. “At the outset schools which lost everything has been identified as a key area that we will assist in as well as rebuilding homes where we can with our own trades people and the Red Cross team.
