Shangri-La's Rasa Sayang Resort and Spa, Penang Contributes to Toddler's Surgery

Shangri-La’s Rasa Sayang Resort & Spa, Penang recently sponsored surgery for a toddler under the resort’s “Embrace Gift of Life” programme. Izzah Sajidah bt. Mohd. Nabin, aged one year and nine months, was the sixth recipient of this life-changing surgery at the Penang Adventist Hospital.

Izzah Sajidah, from the state of Kedah, was born with a congenital heart condition known as Secundum Atrial Septal Defect. Surgery costing MYR32,000 was required to fix the atrial septal defect.

Elaine Yue, the resort’s general manager, presented a mock cheque amounting RM 32,000nett, the entire cost of the surgery, to Izzah’s family. Present were the resort’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Manager, Elizabeth Liew, resort Director of Communications, Suleiman Tunku Abdul Rahman and resort General Manager, Elaine Yue.

Penang Advenstist Hospital was represented by Community Development Manager, Nancy Ong, Community Development Officer, Charlotte Lee, and Medical Social Officer, Yuukie Yeong.

Also present at the cheque presentation were toddler’s parents, Mohd. Nabin bin Abdullah, 39 and Aishah bt. Othman, 36. They were accompanied by their 4 other children Zahra Solehah, 8, Aisyah Hidayah, 6, Iffah Zakirah, 4 and Muhd. Solihin, 2 months old.

“The resort has contributed a total of MYR135,000 to six children over the last three years since 2012 – Siti Aishah Mohd. Roslan, Nur Syifaa Zafira, Kingsley Leow Gau Cing, Nur Damiya Md. Tarmizi and Ang Zhen Shang. Izzah Sajidah is the sixth patient we are helping and the first recipient from Penang Adventist Hospital,” said Ms Yue. “The money collected this time around for Izzah Sajidah was from the table sales and silent auction at our resort’s 40th Anniversary Charity Gala Dinner held in November last year. We are grateful for the support of our sponsors, Amee Philips Exclusive Jewellery, The Wine Shop, Malaysia Airlines and Penang Philharmonic Orchestra.”
