Shangri-La’s - Eros Hotel, New Delhi Celebrated World Earth Day 2014

New Delhi, 23 April 2014 - Every year on 22 April, over a billion people in 190 countries celebrate Earth Day. Like the previous Earth Days, Earth Day 2014 focused on the current unique environmental challenges. As the world’s population migrates to cities; and the bleak reality of climate change becomes increasingly clear, the need to create sustainable communities becomes more important than ever. Earth Day 2014 sought to do just that through its global theme: Green Cities.

This year, Shangri-La’s - Eros Hotel, New Delhi decided to commemorate this occasion by planting tree saplings and contribute towards a greener city. The hotel’s in - house team of florists devised an ingenious way to use dried peepal leaves to design an intricate art installation in the shape of Mother Earth in the hotel lobby.

The staff and guests came together to show their care for the Earth. Guests turned off the lights in their rooms between 8:30 to 9:30 pm on 22 April, 2014. Lights in the lobby and certain restaurant areas were dimmed and candles were used instead.

The inspiring words of “Jane Goodall” are worth remembering on this day set aside to honour Mother Nature.

“You cannot get through a single day without having an impact on the world around you. What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make.”
