SHANGRI-LA HOTEL, JAKARTA PRESENTS ROYAL THAI WEEK

Shangri-La Hotel, Jakarta has invited Chef Naruchit Taingtrong from Shangri-La Hotel, Bangkok to promote Thai cuisine at SATOO restaurant for the hotel’s Royal Thai Week from 10 to 16 September 2018.

Thailand is known for its vibrant cuisine, which is rich in flavours and spices. It is one of the countries in South East Asia that must be visited for its unique culinary experience, and royal Thai cuisine is no exception.

Originally, royal Thai cuisine referred to the food cooked or prepared by people living at the palace. Royal Thai cuisine is rooted in the Rattanakosin era, under the reign of the Chakri dynasty, a time in which various arts and cultural traits were formed; thus, this cuisine reflects an important part of Thai culture and heritage. The presentation of the dishes also plays a crucial part in royal Thai cuisine, which uses delicate flavours and intricate cooking methods.

Chef Naruchit is a young chef who began his career as a trainee at the Salathip restaurant at Shangri-La Hotel, Bangkok. After three years, he broadened his skills and culinary experience by working at Dusit Thani Abu Dhabi. The hotel’s restaurants emphasised royal Thai cuisine and he learnt fruit carving from master chefs.

Recently, Chef Naruchit was appointed to cook for Thailand’s prime minister, acting as his personal chef during his stay in Shangri-La Hotel, Colombo. He was asked to personally meet the prime minister, who recognised him as an outstanding and talented chef.

Dishes featured during the Royal Thai Week include Somtam Gai Yang, Thod Man Goong, Krathong Thong, Yam Huapee Goongsod, Tom Yam Goong, Tom Kha Gai, Mussaman Kae, Gaeng Phed Ped Yang Sai Lychee, Pad Thai Goong, Nuea Phad Prik-Kee-Noo-Sod, Pla Kapong Sam-rod, Kanom Ko Naam, Khao Niew Mamuang, Kanom Piakpoon, Laab Phed, Gai Phad Medmamuwang Himmaphan, Khao Phad Nam Prik Long Ruea and Tub Tim Siam.

One of Chef Naruchit's signature dishes that will be showcased during the promotion is Mussaman Kae – leg of lamb braised in a mildly spiced curry served with potato and bread. All guests may enjoy these dishes during lunch and dinner at SATOO restaurant, Shangri-La Hotel, Jakarta.
