Traders Hotel, Dubai in collaboration with United Arab Emirates Down Syndrome Association (UAEDSA), hosted the Annual Parents Meeting at Samail Ballroom on 25 May 2013.
The meeting is held yearly to update parents of children with Down syndrome who are members of UAEDSA on the achievements of the association and its members over the past year. The meeting started with readings of the Holy Qur'an, followed by a speech from UAEDSA President Sonia Al Hashimi.
The highlight of the meeting was the presentation on physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy by various speakers. Representatives from the hotel also made presentations about safe food handling, as well as fire, life and safety.
“Food handling and a safe home environment are very important to everyone, but this is especially so when it involves children with Down syndrome. We hope that, by sharing our expertise from the hospitality industry in these areas, we would be able to impart important lessons and awareness to the families for a safer home environment,” said Yvonne Wang, director of Human Resource at Traders Hotel, Dubai.
The meeting adjourned at 1:30 p.m. and the participants proceeded to have lunch sponsored by Traders Hotel, Dubai.
The UAEDSA is a volunteer-based association established in 2005 under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Manal Bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. The association also works to integrate individuals with Down syndrome into society and provide them and their families with full support for a more rewarding and productive life.
