On 29 March 2014, Earth Hour was celebrated for the 7th time and Kerry Hotel, Beijing is proud to have demonstrated once again its commitment to environmental conservation by participating in this event.
Earth Hour is held annually worldwide to encourage individuals, communities, households and businesses to help alleviate environmental concerns.
Aside from turning off all non-essential lighting in guestroom corridors, staff areas and all exterior lighting, the staff at Kerry Hotel, Beijing wanted to do something that would create awareness in a fun and creative way. At the same time, the staff wanted to promote health and fitness.
Thus, the staff took Earth Hour to the courts. As the hotel powered down, the Human Resources Department outlined the basketball courts and backboards at Kerry Sports with glow-in-the-dark tape. The players donned glow-in-the-dark T-shirts and shoes, and the ball was creatively highlighted with glow-in-the-dark tape. The cheerleaders and fans were armed with glow sticks and the result was magical. Everyone was excited to watch the game as the players glowed across the court in the dark.
This creative twist to a typical basketball game definitely drew a lot of participation and interest from the staff. Everyone, from the players to cheerleaders, thoroughly enjoyed the game and also bonded over this activity that not only created awareness about Earth Hour, but also promoted a healthy lifestyle.
