World Champion Lobodzinski From Poland Completed The China World Summit Wing Hotel Vertical Run In Record Time

Almost seven hundred athletes from 24 countries and areas competed in the fourth edition of the China World Summit Wing Hotel Vertical Run on Saturday. Local and international runners conquered the colossal skyscraper, the tallest hotel in Beijing, by running up 2,041 steps to the rooftop finish line at 330 metres.

Reigning world champions Piotr Lobodzinski of Poland and Australia’s Suzy Walsham stole the show, each pocketing the first prize of RMB 11,450 in the men's and women's elite races respectively.

Lobodzinski set a new record for the Beijing leg of the race with a time of 9 minutes and 47 seconds. Second place in the men's event went to Mark Bourne from Australia who came in at 10 minutes and 13 seconds. Third place went to Jia Er Ren Jia of China in a time of 11 minutes and 24 seconds.

Setting the new record was no easy feat for Lobodzinski. He said, “I am very happy and satisfied with the fourth win in a row, and being here in China World Summit Wing, Beijing. I will continue to be motivated to protect my champion title next year!”

In the women's race, Australian Suzy Walsham beat her time last year and defended her title with 11 minutes and 51 seconds. She was closely followed by China’s Gao Meng and Australia’s Alice McNarama who came in at 12 minutes and 19 seconds and 12 minutes and 55 seconds respectively.

Walsham said, “This is my fourth time here in Beijing, and my fourth win. I'm definitely thrilled with that. The hotel is also the tallest building that I have climbed this year. I am very happy to reach the top to see this view!”

Mr. Hakan Ozel, general manager of China World Summit Wing, Beijing said, “I am truly amazed by the performance and abilities of the elite athletes. I can imagine how much hard work and time they put into training to become so fit. Their capabilities remind me of what the human body is capable of. I am also impressed by the passion and energy from the individual runners. It is the pleasure of China World Summit Wing, Beijing to hold this event and to share an active lifestyle with more people.”

Organised by Sporting Republic and the International Skyrunning Federation, Beijing’s tallest vertical run was selected as the official race for 2016 Vertical World Circuit (VWC), the world’s premier skyscraper racing circuit uniting some of the world’s most iconic skyscraper races, including the One World Trade Center in New York City.

Sponsors and partners of the annual event included China World Trade Centre, China World Mall, Qatar Airways, Hong Kong International Medical Clinic, Beijing, Tibet 5100, PlayerLayer and Shangri-la Hotel, Doha.

During the opening ceremony of the run on Saturday, Mr. Hakan Ozel, general manager of China World Summit Wing, Beijing passed the donation cheque of RMB 70,000 to Mr. Cao Jun, the vice general secretary of Beijing Foundation for Disabled Person. All registration fees raised from the China World Summit Wing Vertical Run will benefit the Beijing Foundation for Disabled Persons for purchase of equipment.
