Toronto, January 30, 2017-In
collaboration with some of Toronto’s renowned chefs, Shangri-La Hotel,
Toronto is excited to introduce a new culinary series called Taste of the Six. The inspiration of the
series was created to embrace and celebrate Toronto’s vibrant food scene; chefs
Matt Blondin, Frankie Solarik and Jed Smith will each have one night to join
together with Shangri-La’s executive culinary team. Each chef will collaborate
to create an exclusive prix fixe menu that will be available in Bosk, in
support of Sustain Ontario.
“Taste of the Six will allow guests to experience
one of a kind menu’s that truly represent our shared passion for the craft,
while supporting healthy food and farming through the great work of Sustain
Ontario.” said Marcus Routbard, executive chef at Shangri-La Hotel, Toronto. “I
have profound respect for Chefs Blondin, Solarik and Smith, and I’m looking
forward to collaborating in the kitchens with them.”
The first Taste of the Six event will
take place on 23 February 2017, with Chef Matt Blondin from OMAW. Originally a
native of Sudbury, Ontario, Matt Blondin has worked in the Toronto restaurant
scene since 2005. Currently a partner in the Toronto-based hospitality company
The Food Dudes, Blondin has helped open several acclaimed restaurants including
Rasa, Pantry, and recently Omaw. Having honed his skills in the kitchens
at Colborne Lane, Luce and Sen5es, and Momofuku Daishō, plus a stint on the
West Cost to study seafood and aquaculture, Blondin is regarded as one of
Toronto’s chefs.
Next
in the Taste of the Six series on 15
June 2017 is Frankie Solarik, co-owner of Toronto’s BarChef. Rated by Food and Wine Magazine as one of the seven new and innovative bars in the world, Solarik is a Canadian pioneer
of the progressive and contemporary approach to cocktails. Chef Solarik looks
to inspire others worldwide by adopting a new outlook in cocktail culture and dramatically
expanding on the Modernist movement all in tandem with the Bosk team.
For
the final collaboration in the Taste of
the Six series on 19 October 2017, Shangri-La Hotel, Toronto will welcome
its friendly neighbour Jed Smith from Momofuku. English-born Smith began his
career in London under the esteemed tutelage of the chefs at Sketch restaurant.
In 2010, he moved to New York to join the team at Momofuku Ssäm Bar. After a
stint in Montreal working for Chef Martin Picard and Vincent Dion-Lavallée at
Cabane à Sucre Au Pied De Cochon, Jed relocated to Toronto as one of Daishō’s
opening Sous Chefs, before transitioning to Shōtō.
