Kuala Lumpur, 28 January 2014 – Shangri-La Hotel, Kuala Lumpur unveiled its 12 foot tall floral display yesterday. Modelled in the shape of a rearing horse, the display was specially handcrafted to usher in the Year of the Horse and convey the festive season’s greetings to patrons of the hotel.
Brought to life by the talents of the hotel’s team of artists and florists; the 12 foot floral horse is made up of a total of 13,880 red and yellow chrysanthemum blooms, and is probably the largest fresh flower horse display to grace the city’s 2014 Lunar New Year season.
Eight artists worked five days to hand sculpt the display’s frame from one large block of styrofoam before spending another two days plastering and fitting the sculpted frame with blocks of floral foam in preparation for the blooms. Five in-house florists then worked two days to line the frame with fresh flowers. This brings the production time to a total of eleven days.
The floral horse will be on display at Shangri-La Hotel, Kuala Lumpur’s main lobby for the entire duration of the Chinese New Year season. It is available for viewing by all members of the public.
Assembled in front of the 12 foot floral horse display, Shangri-La Hotel Kuala Lumpur Vice President and General Manager Mr Reto Klauser (centre left) leads the hotel’s Executive Committee and staff in wishing everyone Gong Xi Fa Cai.
