Shangri-La Hotel, Kuala Lumpur Participated In Earth Hour 2013

The management and staff at Shangri-La Hotel, Kuala Lumpur continued their efforts to conserve energy and save the Earth by participating in the World Wide Fund for Nature’s (WWF) Earth Hour 2013 on 23 March 2013, between 8:30 and 9:30 p.m.

During the Earth Hour 2013, all non-essential power and lights throughout the hotel, including garden lighting, signage, water fountains and escalators, were turned off.  The hotel laundry operation was also stopped for an hour, and all the restaurants’ lighting were put to a minimal usage in a concerted effort to fight against global warming. All employees were advised to switch off unnecessary equipment such as computers, fax machines, printers, photocopiers and other electrical appliances. The management also sent in-room guests letters recommending minimal use of electrical appliances, such as lights and air conditioning systems, in guestrooms.

On top of that, a 2.5metrehigh Earth Hour logo structure showing the figure ‘60’ was specially constructed in the garden. The hotel staff lit up candles and placed them on the logo during the hour when the lighting has been dimmed. All hotel guests were also invited to join and show their support to the cause by participating in the candle lighting activity.
