Exploring the rich Chinese tea culture

Introducing CRAF-TEA, a monthly series of Chinese tea masterclass where participants can master the true art of the artisanal brew and become a true expert in Chinese tea appreciation. Implemented by Ming Pavilion’s resident tea master, the class will showcase a curriculum that covers the culture and brief history of teas, together with interactive demonstration and hands-on preparation and brewing techniques instructions.

Our Instructor - Janice Zhu, Resident Tea Master

At Ming Pavilion, the tea experience is guided by the exceptional expertise of Janice Zhu. With a rare dual mastery as both a National Level 2 Tea Art Technician and a Tea Evaluation Technician, Janice possesses a deep, analytical understanding of tea quality and the soul of the brew. Janice’s credentials reflect a lifetime of dedication. She is a Certified China National Tea Producer and serves as a Vocational Skills Assessor, helping to set the standard for tea artistry across the industry. Guests are invited to witness her specialized mastery of Song Dynasty Diancha (Tea Whisking)—a meticulous, historical practice she revives with grace, turning every cup into a living piece of art.

Your Tea Master Journey

Exploration

This course takes tea as its central theme, tracing its journey from ancient origins as medicine and food, through the simmered and whipped tea of the Tang and Song dynasties, to the infused and Gongfu tea practices of the Ming and Qing, and finally to modern innovations in tea culture. It presents a complete picture of how tea has evolved across eras, allowing participants to savor the depth of a thousand years of culture in every cup.

Interactive Experience

The course is not only about listening but also hands-on participation. Tea masters will demonstrate various brewing methods and invite participants to try them themselves—from leaf preparation and brewing to tasting—providing an immersive experience of tea craftsmanship and artistry, and deepening appreciation for fine tea.

Tea Gathering

The course invites participants to slow down and find tranquility amidst the fragrance of tea, experiencing the elegance and innovation of modern tea culture while naturally weaving tea into everyday life. As they savor each cup, they will also discover the art of pairing tea with Fujian cuisine, enjoying the unique harmony of culture and taste.
