To help our international guests enjoy a more stress-free stay with us, we are making available emergency medical insurance coverage of up to a total of USD 184,000, at no additional charge, should you be diagnosed with COVID-19 during your trip in Thailand.


Eligible international guests will be automatically covered by the policy at no additional charge when you stay at our hotel from 17 December 2021 until 31 December 2022. You will also have access to around-the-clock emergency travel assistance services.

COVID-19 Coverage Benefits and FAQs

Underwritten by AIG, and subject to eligibility, highlights of the coverage include the following, should a guest test positive for COVID-19 during their trip:
• Reasonable and Customary costs for medically necessary services provided by a practitioner, up to a total of USD 184,000.  This includes surgical and hospital treatment and hospital costs, as well as, additional accommodation (room only) and travel expenses if the guest cannot return to their country of residence as planned and their extended stay is medically necessary.
• Additional accommodation costs, meals or other expenses up to USD 100 a day for a maximum of 7 days after a guest tests positive for COVID-19 and is unexpectedly placed into mandatory quarantine at a Shangri-La property.
• Necessary and reasonable repatriation costs or, in the event of death, the cost of returning their body or ashes up to a total of USD 110,000.

Guests can contact a dedicated AIG customer service team for assistance if they test positive with COVID-19 during their trip. Under the policy, our guests will have access to emergency travel assistance that is available around the clock during their trip.

Eligibility and Requirements


The Thailand-wide coverage duration will differ according to the guest’s length of stay with Shangri-La Bangkok and/or Shangri-La Chiang Mai. Guests must also begin their trip to Thailand by staying with Shangri-La Bangkok and/or Shangri-La Chiang Mai first before proceeding to other destinations in Thailand:
  • • Guests staying for one night at Shangri-La Bangkok/Chiang Mai will receive up to 5 consecutive days of coverage
  • • Guests staying for two nights at Shangri-La Bangkok/Chiang Mai will receive up to 10 consecutive days of coverage
  • • Guests staying for three nights at Shangri-La Bangkok/Chiang Mai will receive up to 15 consecutive days of coverage

This means even after you have checked out of Shangri-La, you will still be covered for the remainder of your applicable coverage duration when you are out and about exploring other destinations in Thailand. Note that this cover is only valid whilst travelling within Thailand and will end if the guest leaves Thailand within the days shown above.


Coverage is subject to the terms and conditions, including any applicable limitations and exclusions, of the insurance policy. AIG will make all claims payments directly to medical or accommodation providers.
