Guss manages a staff of over 550 employees providing service to the 395-room hotel, which is home to famed restaurants Siam Garden, Xian Tiang Ge and Yi Café, and one of the biggest meeting and banquet function spaces in Shaanxi Province.
Prior to joining Shangri-La Hotel, Xian, Guss was general manager of JW Marriott, Mumbai. He was previously assigned in London, Paris, Monaco, Cairo and Berlin, where he gained considerable hotel management experience.
Fluent in French, German and English, Guss began his hotel career in 1988 in the kitchen. With a strong food and beverage background, he has won various awards for new restaurants, as well as catering and bar concepts. He has successfully leveraged this experience to the new properties.
Guss, a native from Germany, grew up in Paris. He has the same hospitality as the French, but has the organisation and attention to detail of the Germans – the perfect combination for a general manager.
