Brunei, Japan and Singapore passport holders can enjoy 15 days visa-free access.

Standard 30-day, single-entry visas can be issued between three and five working days from most Chinese embassies and must be used within three months from the date of issue. Longer visas are often more difficult to obtain.

The Chinese currency is known as renminbi (RMB) and is available in 1, 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 denomination banknotes. Credit cards are accepted in major hotels and shopping malls. Cash and travellers cheques can be exchanged in licensed exchange offices and international hotels.

Winter requires heavy clothing, including coats, hats and gloves as temperatures can drop to well below freezing with strong winds. Light clothing is appropriate for spring and summer months.
